Fort Cowan Cowan - Moreton Island

During WW2 this 6 inch gun from the Cowan Cowan coastal
battery on Moreton Island
fired on one of our own ships the H.M.A.S Tambar. Three sailors were killed and
a search
light was blown from the deck, floating ashore at Redcliffe the next day.
Residents reported
to authorities that a mine was bobbing about in the waves.
This searchlight is on display at the Gold Coast War Museum

Vic & Val with Jesse Wadsworth in front of the old signal station. Jesse saw the incident from her front verandah.
